Collection: February 2024 Tabletalk

The February 2024 issue of Tabletalk will provide an introduction to the life and influence of Augustine of Hippo. Almost certainly the greatest of the early church fathers in the West, and perhaps the most important theologian of all time outside of the biblical authors, Augustine exercises an influence on Christian theology, piety, and practice that can hardly be overstated. Much of our Christian vocabulary, doctrinal formulations, understanding of the Christian life, and more can be directly traced to Augustine, and Christians from all theological traditions look to him either as a hero of the faith or as a foil who must be answered in the development of Christian theology. Indeed, with good reason, both the magisterial Protestant traditions and the Roman Catholic Church look to Augustine as a father in the faith, and the church as a whole continues to be influenced by Augustine today for good and for ill. This issue of Tabletalk will help readers understand Augustine’s importance and will offer some guidance for how we should evaluate his contributions to the life of the church.

Contributors include Burk Parsons, Stephen J. Nichols, Bruce P. Baugus, William VanDoodewaard, Keith A. Mathison, Andrew M. Davis, Kara Dedert, Jonathan L. Master, R. Carlton Wynne, Aaron L. Garriott, Robert VanDoodewaard, W. Robert Godfrey, and Robert Rothwell
