The May 2023 issue of Tabletalk will look at the problem of commonly tolerated sins in the church. Christians who belong to a biblical and confessional tradition tend to be good at recognizing and disciplining scandalous sins—e.g., adultery, heresy, theft—when they occur in the church. There are, however, many other sins that may not be as publicly scandalous but that must likewise be addressed when they happen in the Christian community. Sadly, many of these sins are not addressed with calls to repentance but are overlooked or even tolerated, allowing them to fester, thereby making the church less holy than it should be and sowing the seeds for even more serious problems. This issue of Tabletalk will consider several of these commonly tolerated sins and what we should do about them.
